Playing with the Georgetown Trio on a cruise ship!

Hi friends!

Exciting times! I’m pleased to report that I’ve accepted a three-week cruise ship gig with the fantastic Georgetown Trio (Check them out here!) with British pianist, singer and composer Joy Ellis & Adam Osmianski, a drummer from the US. It’s on a remarkable vessel called HM The World (official website here), which is populated by residents who actually own property on board, rather than being temporary passengers. Apparently Arnold Schwarzenegger and Madonna own suites on board, which entitles you to eat at six restaurants, use two swimming pools, a full-size tennis court (the only ship at sea to boast such a thing), have access to a personal sommelier, fitness coach, gyms, sauna, classes etc etc! What a life! In 2015 alone it is sailing to 40 countries, stopping at 120 ports. The residents vote on where they would like to visit next. It’s an amazing idea. Here’s the official blurb:

The World is the largest private residential yacht on earth where its Residents travel the globe without ever leaving home. This community at sea first set sail in 2002 and has visited over 900 ports in over 140 countries. With a continuous worldwide itinerary that enables the vessel to span the globe every two-to-three years, the Ship is a complete floating city, equipped with high-end facilities and luxurious amenities that create an intimate, refined atmosphere for its Resident owners. The strikingly beautiful and well appointed Ship promises impeccable and personalized service customized to Resident’s preferences in a warm and inviting ambience much like that of a private yacht, well-staffed private home or exclusive country club.

It’s going to be a challenge playing four sets a night on double bass with no nights off for three weeks but it should do wonders for my stamina, strength and intonation. Joy has sent me the pad of nearly 700 pieces we might play. Phew!

We leave Southampton on 3rd August and will be spending time in Fowey, Dublin, Oban (Scotland), Faroe Islands and multiple stops in Iceland, before debarking at Reykjavik and flying home. It’ll be a great opportunity for me to stay on a few days and visit our friends Kristjan, Ana-Carolina and their beautiful daughter Sunna.

If you’re interested in reading more about HM The World or seeing some pictures, check out this story the Daily Mail (I know, sorry) did.

So that’s my August, pretty much. Hope you all have a great Summer!
